If you’ve ever wondered what cloth diaper liners are and if you need to use them? This blog is for you. Read on to find everything you need to know about using cloth nappy liners with your modern cloth diapers.
What are liners?
Liners are a thin layer of fabric that goes on the inside of bubs’ cloth diaper. They’re designed to catch solids and make it easier to dispose of poo in the toilet.
When should I start using liners?
Newborn babies don’t need liners as their poop is pretty much liquid and will seep straight through to the diaper. However, as your little one grows and starts solids, their poo will change—this is a great time to try liners with your modern cloth diaper.
3 reasons to love liners
1. They keep things mess-free
As a parent, you will have to deal with poo, but liners can help make that experience a little less messy. Liners perfectly fit the inside of the diaper, which means less poo to clean up when it comes to washing your MCNs. They also make disposing of solids easier as you can drop poo from the liner into the toilet then toss it into a designated organic waste/trash bin or place it into your garden compost where it will break down naturally. (Note: Do not place soiled liners into garden compost bins that will be used to grow food.)
2. They protect diapers from rash creams
Rash creams and balms can be used with our cloth diapers, however, because they act as a barrier, they can impact the absorbency of the diaper insert. For this reason, we always recommend using a liner when using diaper creams or balms to protect the diaper.
3. They’re ideal for carers and daycare
You can make using cloth diapers even easier for daycare, babysitters or families by setting up your diapers in advance. That means setting up the leg snaps for the perfect fit and layering inserts. But you can also add a disposable diaper liner to catch the poo too.
How to use liners
Place the soft liner on top of your cloth diaper inner next to the baby's skin and fit the cloth diaper as usual. Solids will be caught while liquids pass through into the absorbent part of the diaper. Once soiled, remove the bamboo liner and discard. It’s that simple!
How to dispose of liners responsibly
Never flush liners down the toilet! Some brands claim to be flushable but that's rarely true. Instead, wipes clog sewers which can lead to public health issues, increased water bills and other environmental problems. When removing your cloth diaper, we recommend dropping the solids (remove as much as you can) into the toilet. Dispose of wet liners in your home or garden compost, while soiled liners should be discarded in your regular trash bin (do not use in compost for food gardens.) EcoNaps liners are biodegradable and compostable.
